WHAT IS PROBATE?

Probate is a court-supervised legal proceeding in which a  deceased individual's property is assembled, protected, and then distributed to his or her beneficiaries. Property of the deceased individual may be liquidated and legitimate bills paid. A probate is a public proceeding and can take several months to conclude.

Not all estates require a formal probate.

Washington  supports Small Estates [less than $100,000] and Estates with minimal court-supervision [called Nonintervention Estates].
